Progress in Clinical Enzymology - Approach to Serum Enzyme Abnormalities
- Chairmen's Introductory Remarks

Masato MAEKAWA, MD*1 and Kayoko SUDO, PhD*2

In routine laboratory analyses, an abundance of laboratory data are produced using an automated analyzer. Individual laboratory data management sometimes demonstrates discrepancies between laboratory data and clinical symptoms or among laboratory data. This is an important diagnostic clue in clinical laboratory. Such subjects were selected from clinical enzymology field. One introductory review, the following four individual topics and one strategic lecture will be presented in the symposium.
Results of enzyme determinations must therefore be carefully interpreted with knowledge of biochemistry, physiology and technical limitations. The most important point must be concentrated analysis of the initial clue.
