Recent Diagnostic and Therapeutic Progress in Hematology and its related Laboratory Tests
-Especially in Hematopoietic Neoplasms-
|Chairmenfs Introductory Remarks

Shimeru KAMIHIRA, MD*1 and Noriyuki TATSUMI, MD*2

In clinical hematology, especially in the field of hematopoietic neoplasms, molecular understanding has been providing new insight for not only classification of the diseases but also promising therapeutic strategies, such as the WHO classification and therapies using ATRA, STI571, and IDEC. On the other hand, the laboratory tests in hematology labs in Japan have not always been up to date with molecular diagnostic and therapeutic advances regarding hematopoietic neoplasms. Therefore, the present seminar was held to consider the near future advances in hematological laboratory testing.
